Overseas people in a relationship with an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident may be able to join their partner in Australia!

The Australian Partner Migration Program enables Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents and even Eligible New Zealand citizens to sponsor an overseas partner (spouse, fiance or de facto partner) to migrate to Australia.

Overseas partners must either be married, engaged to, or in a de facto (common law) ongoing and genuine relationship with an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.

If you are in a relationship of at least 12 months duration with an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident than you may apply for a visa to travel to and remain in Australia on the basis of your relationship being genuine and ongoing.

There are 3 different visa subclasses in the Partner Stream.

The Spouse and Prospective Marriage (Fiancé)) Visas are available to heterosexual couples who can fulfil the specific visa requirements.

The Interdependency Partner visa subclass is designed for homosexual or lesbian couples who can fulfil the specific visa requirements.

Spouse Visa

Applicants under the Spouse category must be married or in a de facto relationship with an Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or eligible New Zealand Citizen. The Australian Partner must sponsor the Overseas Partner.

If you are in a de facto relationship it must be for at least 12 months at the time you apply.

Prospective Marriage (Fiancé) Visa

Applicants under the prospective marriage (fiancé)) category must be outside Australia, be engaged to their sponsor, and plan to marry their sponsor in Australia. As with the Spouse Visa, your sponsor must be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
