Most of Australia’s population lives within 50 kilometers of the coast in the major capital cities or satellite cities or towns.

A typical Australian suburban house sits on a ¼ acre size block and has a small front yard and a larger backyard. Typically schools, sporting fields, parks and shopping centres are all in close proximity and this allows for the enviable Australian lifestyle. There is comfortable and spacious housing up to one hour’s travel of most Capital cities. Australia also has a very good public transport system although most families own a car which allows Australians flexibility in getting to work plus the luxury of easy access to national parks and regional recreation areas.

Generally there is not a high concentration of inner city multi level residential accommodation in the major cities. However, recent government policy has been to encourage urban accommodation to cope with population increases, urban sprawl, infrastructure problems and increased travel costs.
